English Language Learners (ELL)
Are you new to the country or do you need to improve your English language proficiency at home or on the job? Do you want to be able to participate in your community more?
Join students from over 50 countries learn English at Middletown Adult Education in classes that help non-English speakers better comprehend, speak, write and use English at work and in their daily lives. Students will learn how to navigate everyday experiences of life in the United States, as well as its history, culture, holidays and current events. Small size classes and interactive lessons provide plenty of opportunities to practice what is learned.
What is the ELL Program?
- Students at least 17 years old with a high school diploma from their country. Adults accepted at all times.
- Classes are FREE to residents of Middletown, Cromwell, East Haddam/Modus, East Hampton, Old Saybrook, Portland, Rocky Hill, Regional District #4 (Chester, Deep River, Centerbrook, Ivoryton), Regional District #13 (Durham, Middlefield, Rockfall), Regional District #17 (Haddam, Higganum, Killingworth), Madison and Westbrook
- Students will be placed in a class level based on the results of a state-mandated language proficiency assessment.

Middletown: 398 Main Street (entrance in back by Melilli Parking Plaza)
Daytime Classes: Monday - Friday 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 3:30 PM
Evening Classes: Monday & Wednesday 6 PM to 8:30 PM
Old Saybrook: 210 Main Street (site B)
Daytime Classes: Monday & Wednesday 9:30 AM to 12 PM
Evening Classes: Tuesday & Thursday 6 PM to 8:30 PM
Rocky Hill: Griswald Middle School
Evening Classes: Tuesday & Thursday 6 PM to 8:30 PM
